Third mission
Third Mission encompasses the activities that universities use to interface directly with society, complementing the traditional missions of teaching (First Mission, focused on students) and research (Second Mission, focused on the scientific community).
The aim of the University’s Third Mission is to facilitate the transfer of scientific, technological and cultural knowledge and to foster its transformation into productive value. Through direct interaction with civil society and the business community, Universities and departments seek to promote sustainable and equitable growth that is capable of generating economic, social and cultural benefits. Knowledge thus becomes a strategic tool to address contemporary challenges, and contributes to enhancing innovation and the development of local and global communities.
The PhD Programme in Social Research and Innovation plays a crucial role in this process. It promotes an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach that addresses complex social issues and contributes actively to the progress of society and the community.
